Oklahoma Black History Resource
Oklahoma Black History Resource, begun as part of the work of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission and crafted by Bear Agency Group, is a digital hub that chronicles and celebrates the Black experience in Oklahoma. The site’s principal topical categories are: Black Wall Street, Deep Deuce, the All-Black Towns in Oklahoma, and the Freedmen.
In addition, Oklahoma Black History Resource is an easily accessible repository for information about various organizations whose mission work supports Black history, linking their websites and promoting relevant events and information.
At Oklahoma Black History Resource, we subscribe to the words of author James Baldwin, words inscribed on the exterior of Greenwood Rising, Tulsa’s Black Wall Street History Center: “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
Black history, which is essentially and quintessentially American history, must be faced. Grappling with the whole of our unvarnished history in the present will allow us to grow together into a brighter, more inclusive, future.
